Using HeartMath Sensors During Sports & Physical Activity (Golf, Running, Yoga)
Overview HeartMath sensors are precision instruments designed to detect subtle changes in your heart rhythm (HRV). Because they measure blood flow in the earlobe, they are sensitive to motion artifacts.
Can I use the sensor while playing sports?
-
High-Motion Activities (Running, Golf Swings, HIIT): No. vigorous movement will shake the sensor against the ear, causing signal loss or "red" (noise) segments in your session data.
-
Low-Motion Activities (Walking, Yoga, Stretching): Yes. As long as the movement is smooth and the sensor cable (if using a wired model) is stable, you can maintain a good signal.
Golf Specifics
-
Do not wear the sensor while swinging the club.
-
Do use the sensor for 30–60 seconds as part of your pre-shot routine.
-
Do use it while waiting at the tee box or riding in the cart to lower competitive stress.
Tip: The Inner Balance Coherence Plus (Bluetooth) is best for active users as it eliminates the cable that often gets snagged during movement.
