Using HeartMath Alongside Other Wellness Devices
Overview
Many HeartMath users also practice with other wellness or biofeedback devices such as the Muse headband or Oura ring. This article explains how these devices interact — or don't — with HeartMath technology, and what to expect when using them together.
Using HeartMath with the Muse Headband
The Muse headband and HeartMath sensor measure completely different physiological signals and can be used at the same time without any conflict.
- Muse uses EEG (electroencephalography) sensors on the forehead to measure brainwave activity.
- HeartMath uses a photoplethysmography (PPG) ear clip sensor to measure heart rhythm and calculate HRV coherence.
Because these devices operate on different hardware, use separate apps, and measure unrelated signals, there is no interference between them. Many users find the combination of heart coherence training and brainwave feedback to be a complementary practice.
Using HeartMath with the Oura Ring
Wearing an Oura ring during a HeartMath session will not interfere with your practice in any way. The two devices operate independently and there is no signal conflict.
However, it is important to note that HeartMath apps and software — including the HeartMath App, Inner Balance App, and emWave — do not currently integrate with the Oura Ring or any other third-party wearable platforms. This means:
- Your coherence and HRV session data will remain within the HeartMath app.
- Your Oura data will remain within the Oura platform.
- There is no automatic syncing or data sharing between the two.
If you wish to compare data from both platforms, you would need to review each app separately.
General Note on Third-Party Device Compatibility
At this time, HeartMath does not support integration with third-party devices or platforms, including Oura, Garmin, Polar, Whoop, Apple Watch, Samsung, or similar wearables. There is no current development timeline for these integrations, but HeartMath will share updates if this changes in the future.
