Is there a HeartMath SDK or API for Developers?

Developers and researchers often ask if there is a Software Development Kit (SDK) available to create custom apps, games, or tools using HeartMath sensors (Inner Balance, emWave2, Coherence Plus).

Availability

No. HeartMath does not provide a public SDK, API, or open-source drivers for our hardware.

Reasoning

  • Proprietary Technology: The specific algorithms used to calculate Coherence and process the raw Pulse Wave Amplitude are patented and proprietary.

  • Quality Control: To maintain the scientific validity of the HeartMath system, we ensure that all coherence training occurs within our validated software environments (Inner Balance, HeartMath App, emWave).

Alternatives for Data Access

While you cannot build a custom app to run the sensor in real-time, you can access the data post-session for analysis:

  1. Export via emWave Pro: You can sync data from the mobile apps to the emWave Pro desktop software.

  2. XML/CSV Export: From emWave Pro, you can export the raw Inter-Beat Intervals (IBI) and session data to standard file formats for use in MATLAB, Excel, or other research tools.
